The NC State rifle team concluded its NCAA Regional Qualifier in Charleston, S.C. by edging out Alabama-Birmingham by a score of 4644-4597, which when combined with the 4633 average from its top-three finishes over the regular season, gave the Wolfpack a score of 9312.

Freshman Addy Burrow’s excellent shooting from her last rifle meet against Nebraska continued today, as she finished second in the aggregate amongst her teammates with a score of 1,159. Tied with Burrow was sophomore Emily Fisher, who saved her best for the smallbore with a score of 575, the best score at the qualifier.

The best all-around performance of the day came from freshman Makenzie Sheffield, who shot an impressive 592 in the air rifle, just one shy of her career high and the best score at the qualifier. In fact, Sheffield’s aggregate score (1,166) in the NCAA qualifier was the second best of her short career thus far.

The underclassmen at NC State Rifle didn’t stop there, as freshman John Peterson used the qualifier to post his best score in the air rifle this season with a 587. Not to be outdone, senior Claire Zanti tied her career high in the air rifle with a 589, a score she earned earlier this month against Nebraska.

The Wolfpack awaits scores from the rest of the NCAA Qualifiers around the country and will only know by the end of the weekend if its 9312 will be good enough to send the team into the top eight and into the NCAA championships, held in Lexington, K.Y. this year from Mar. 13-15. Regardless, the Wolfpack isn’t done with rifle yet this season, as it’ll head to Memphis for the GARC Championships in Memphis, T.N. next week on Feb. 28-29.
