The No. 12 NC State rifle team will be going to Charleston, South Carolina on Feb. 22 to compete in the NCAA Qualifiers. This event determines who gets to go to the NCAA National Championship in Kentucky and whether the team goes or only individuals.
The participants of the NCAA National Championship are determined by a point system. The NCAA Qualifiers provide 50% of the team’s ranking score, the other half coming from the top three score average of 4,668 points. Only eight teams get to go to the championship.
The Wolfpack has finished with a 4-7 record, but has lost all seven matches by fewer than 100 points, and all losses were against top 20 teams.
Sophomore Emily Fisher is one of the stars of the team, who performed the best last year at the qualifiers with an aggregate score of 1,167. She’ll be going again this year, and has had a strong year up to this point, and will contribute again this year.
Freshman Addy Burrow performed well in Nebraska, scoring the highest aggregate score in her career with 1169. She’s been solid all year and has even improved, shooting 1153 at the beginning of the season.
Senior Claire Zanti competed nicely last year in the qualifiers, shooting an 1150 aggregate. Last Sunday, she also scored a season-high 1159 aggregate score and will carry that energy to Charleston for this weekend.
The last time NC State sent an athlete to the National Championship was in the 2017-2018 year, where then-senior Lauren Phillips got 12th place in the individual standings and made program history at NC State as a top performer.
