The No. 7 NC State women’s basketball team put on a fourth-quarter clinic on Super Bowl Sunday, delivering a thrilling road win in front of a huge NC State crowd at Cameron Indoor Stadium. With its win over Duke, the Wolfpack picked up its seventh victory in a row. Here are some of the key numbers from Sunday’s exciting game.
50/50 — Estimated ratio of NC State fans to Duke fans. Wolfpack Nation traveled well to watch its team take on the dark-blue Tobacco Road rival on Super Bowl Sunday. As loud chants of “Let’s go Pack” and “Wolf … Pack” broke out, a bit of Reynolds Coliseum oozed into Cameron Indoor Stadium Sunday afternoon.
15 — First-half turnovers for the Wolfpack. Despite shooting well from 3-point range in the first half, NC State gave the ball away possession after possession. With junior forward Kayla Jones’ four turnovers leading the way, five different Pack players turned the ball over multiple times in the first 20 minutes.
4 — Second-half turnovers for the Wolfpack. After struggling so much in the first half, the Wolfpack got it together at halftime and played calmly and disciplined in the final 20 minutes. NC State protected the ball and avoided the careless passes it was overly fond of in the first half, helping secure a key ACC road win.
100 — Percentage of the Wolfpack’s third-quarter points scored by sophomore center Elissa Cunane and freshman wing Jakia Brown-Turner. Cunane poured in 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting in the period, and with a 3-pointer and two layups, Brown-Turner scored seven.
3 — Number of fourth-quarter 3-pointers by redshirt senior Grace Hunter. Despite struggling to get playing time after recovering from a torn ACL last season, Hunter was on the court for the entire fourth quarter and hit clutch shot after clutch shot. Her first 3 tied the game up, second one gave NC State the lead and her final bucket put the Wolfpack up five with just over 30 seconds to play.
10 — Points NC State trailed by midway through the third quarter. The Wolfpack overcame its second double-digit deficit of the season in one of its most resilient wins to date. After Wes Moore called timeout with his team down 40-30 in the third quarter, NC State outscored Duke 33-20 the rest of the way.
22 — Points scored by Cunane in the second half. After being held to five points in the first 20 minutes, Cunane put the team on her back and carried the Wolfpack in the second half. The 6-foot-5 center shot 6 for 6 from the field and 10 for 11 from the free-throw line in her huge second half.
