The NC State gymnastics team finished its fourth EAGL meet against Pittsburgh Saturday, where the Pack outscored Pittsburgh 196.025-195.350.
The Wolfpack’s final is its second-highest score this season. The Panthers performed well on the vault and bars while the Pack had a strong meet on the beam and floor. The Panthers had no all-arounder gymnasts, leaving senior Drew Grantham and junior Lauren Kent to place first and second, respectively. Grantham finished with an overall score of 39.200 and Kent finished the meet with a cumulative score of 39.050.
On the vault, freshman Emily Shepard was part of the three-way tie for first place with a score of 9.875. Following the tie, freshman Chloe Negrete came in fourth place, scoring 9.800.
Grantham and Kent both appeared to have some trouble on the vault, scoring a little lower than their normal performance. Grantham scored a 9.600 while Kent finished with a 9.675.
Junior Katie Cox placed second on the bars with a personal best of 9.825. Teammates Shepard and Kent tied for third with a score of 9.800.
With a career high on the beam, Grantham leads the Pack to first place with a score of 9.950. Negrete’s 9.925 was not only a season high but also earned her second place on the podium.
Kent tied for fourth place on the beam with a final score of 9.825.
The Wolfpack did really well on the floor with Grantham placing first with 9.900. Teammates Negrete and senior Alexis Beucler were both a part of a three-way tie for second place with a score of 9.875. Beucler’s floor score marked a career high.
Overall, the Pack kept its event scores high. On the vault, the Pack had a score of 48.700. The bars scored a 48.925. The Pack tied its season high on the beams of 49.125 and collectively scored 49.275 on the floor.
The Wolfpack returns home for a tri-meet against UNC and New Hampshire this Saturday, Feb. 15 at Reynolds Coliseum starting at 4 p.m.
