The No. 8 NC State women’s tennis team picked up wins over Furman University and East Tennessee State in what was its first set of home matches to start the season. The Pack defeated the Paladins 5-2 and then the Buccaneers later on in the day 6-1.
In its first match against Furman, the Pack was able to secure the doubles point with a win from No. 1 doubles pair senior Anna Rogers and sophomore Alana Smith, as well as senior Adriana Reami and junior Lexi Keberle. Rogers and Smith were able to topple their No. 23 opponent 6-1, and Reami and Keberle came out with a win as well to grab that first point of the matchup.
Heading into singles 1-0, the Pack was able to put away its first match of the day with four wins, with No. 31 Smith dominating her opponent 6-4 and 6-0 as well as No. 23 Reami taking a strong win 6-2 and 6-4. Keberle and junior Liz Norman were also able to grab single points for the Wolfpack.
Heading into its match against the Buccaneers, the Pack was able to once again grab the first point of the match in doubles. Powerhouse doubles team Rogers and Smith were once again able to dominate the competition with a 6-1 victory followed by a strong 6-4 victory for Keberle and Reami.
The Wolfpack was able to put the Buccaneers away in the single matches, only giving East Tennessee one point. Reami was the first to finish her sets, dominating with two 6-1 finishes. Smith also had a solid win, finishing both 6-2. Norman, Keberle and Rogers also were able to solidify the match for the Pack, leaving the Wolfpack 2-0 to end the day.
The Wolfpack will take on another double header this Saturday at home against South Carolina, in hopes to replicate the strong performance displayed today.
