No. 5 NC State wrestling dominated Hofstra in Hempstead, New York, winning 37-3. The Wolfpack won the first nine matches which included two pins and five total bonus-point matches.
This win against Hofstra increases NC State’s duals record to 10-0 and ends nonconference play undefeated in the 2019-20 season.
125 - Redshirt freshman Jakob Camacho won 8-5 after scoring two late takedowns in the match, starting the day off with a Wolfpack win and decision.
133 – Redshirt freshman Jarrett Trombley won 12-0 in the major decision victory, scoring a four-point near fall and was able to accumulate over five minutes of riding time. Trombley’s match was the first bonus-point win for the Pack.
141 - Redshirt freshman Alex Urquiza won a close but important 4-2 decision win. Urquiza secured his victory with a third period takedown.
149 – Redshirt freshman Matt Grippi, similar to his teammates, won by decision with a score of 11-8. With multiple takedowns early in the match, Grippi was able to push ahead enough to keep his opponent, Reece Heller, out of reach.
157 - Redshirt junior No. 2 Hayden Hidley pinned his opponent in the second period at the 3:39 mark. This is his second pin in a row on the road, and he brought the Wolfpack lead to 19-0.
165 – Redshirt freshman Tyler Barnes got the second bonus-point win of the day, and won with a 22-3 technical fall.
174 – Redshirt junior No. 18 Daniel Bullard scored the second pin of the day, going to work quickly and winning the match in just over two minutes.
184 – Redshirt freshman No. 3 Trent Hidley won with a score of 15-5, gaining the major decision and a bonus-point win for the Pack.
197 – Redshirt junior No. 11 Nick Reenan won the ninth match for the Pack with a 7-3 score. He gained two takedowns late in the match to push ahead
285 – In the heavyweight match, sophomore Deonte Wilson lost with a very close bout with a 6-5 score, allowing the only points for the Hofstra team.
The Wolfpack will finally begin ACC competition, starting with duals against Virginia at home. The match will be in Reynolds Coliseum on Jan. 24.
