Redshirt senior guard Grace Hunter shoots against Virginia guard Carole Miller on Sunday, Jan. 5 at Reynolds Coliseum. Hunter scored 10 points as the Wolfpack won 80-60.
NC State women’s basketball dominated the Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum for its 14th straight win since the start of the season. While there were a lot of great performances, here are some numbers that won’t appear in the basic box score.
81 – Both teams’ free-throw percentage since both teams went 13 of 16 from the charity strike. For NC State, sophomore center Elissa Cunane made 10 of her 10 tries, so the rest of the team went just 3 for 6.
13 – The assist margin between NC State and Virginia and the Pack collected 24 assists on 28 made baskets. Junior guard Kai Crutchfield led the team with six assists while senior guard Aislinn Konig was second on the team with five.
39 – Combined points between Virginia guards Jocelyn Willoughby and Dominique Toussaint. The rest of the team combined for 21 points and no other player had more than six points.
1,000 – The career points mark Konig hit late in the first period, fittingly, with a 3-pointer. She is the 14th active ACC player to score 1,000 career points and the 34th in NC State history to hit the milestone.
11 – Number of 3-pointers NC State hit during the game. Freshman wing Jakia Brown-Turner and Konig hit three each as the Pack shot 36.7% from deep.
86 – Percentage of made baskets the Wolfpack assisted on. Led by Crutchfield’s six and Konig’s five, five different NC State players recorded at least three assists as the Pack was constantly moving the ball around and making the extra pass for an easy look.
55 – Minutes played by the bench during the win. Just a few days after giving the reserves a total of seven minutes in the second half, head coach Wes Moore was able to go deep into his bench to spell his starters and give them some much-needed rest.
4 – Three-point plays completed by Cunane. The 6-foot-5 center had her way down low, and as Virginia kept sending bodies at her, she kept getting to the rim and finishing through contact. All four times she made a shot and drew a foul, she knocked down the ensuing free throw.
