The NC State gymnastics team will host UNC-Chapel Hill at Reynolds Coliseum this Saturday at 7 p.m.
The No. 34 Wolfpack leads the EAGL conference after this past weekend’s performance against Towson. With a high score of 195.650, the Pack is going strong into the weekend. The Pack has already competed against the No. 39 Tar Heels earlier in January during a quad-meet. The Tar Heels outscored the Pack by a slight margin, 194.625-194.425, in that meet.
Although the Tar Heels have had a fortunate start to their season, their numbers are on the decline, while the Wolfpack’s scores continue to rise with each meet. During the Pack’s first home meet of the season, many individual scores improved.
Senior Drew Grantham, junior Kasey Nelson and freshman Chloe Negrete all recorded season highs on the beam. Freshman Emily Shepard, junior Lauren Kent and Negrete improved their vault scores for season bests. Shepard had a career high on the bars, and Negrete finished her night with a career best on the floor. Grantham also had a high score as an all-arounder.
This past weekend, the Pack not only celebrated individual season highs but also team bests in all four events.
The Wolfpack has risen its bars to 49.050 and the vault to 48.875. With a new high score of 48.725 on the beams and an even score of 49 on the floor, the Wolfpack has a good grasp on how to improve for this weekend’s meet.
The Wolfpack will focus on its own scores and gymnasts during the meet this weekend, in an effort to continue to improve its scores for its third EAGL meet of the season.
