The NC State Wolfpack Indoor Track and Field team will be heading to Lubbock, Texas this Friday and Saturday to compete in the Texas Tech Invitational. The Pack will be going head to head against other NCAA schools such as Texas Tech, Baylor, Florida State, Boise State, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee, North Carolina and many more.
On day one the meet will begin with the 60-meter events, hurdles being first followed by sprints for both men and women. After the preliminary heats finish, the 600-meter men and women’s long distance race will commence before the second round of 60-meter events begins again. After the winners of the semi-finals have been announced, another distance break occurs with the men and women’s 400-meter. The finals for the 60-meter events will finish the day off for the track events.
Freshman Josh Brockman also deserves some praise for his fourth-place finish at the Hokie Invitational where he ran an 8.1-second time in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. Brockman is slated to run for the Pack at Lubbock, and the expectation is for him to place in a similar spot that he did at his last meet.
On to the field for day one, weight throw for both men and women will occur with pole vaulting being sandwiched between them. A little later in the day, triple jump will start and the other sections of weight throw, as well as pole vaulting, will finish off the day.
A couple names to look out for on the field are sophomore Jamar Davis and junior Michelle Cobb. Both of these triple-jumping machines got first place in their event at the hokie invitational. Davis posted a 15.67-meter jump in the men’s triple while Cobb threw up an astounding 13.25-meter jump on the women’s side of things. These two jumping powerhouses are going to be a force to be reckoned with once they get things going in Lubbock.
Day two of the meet will consist of the 800-meter, mile, 200-meter, 3000-meter and 4×400-meter relay in that respective order. A big name to look for is senior sprinter Cravont Charleston. Charleston has been on a tear recently, hitting first place in the finals for the 200-meter dash at the Hokie Invitational, posting an impressive time of 21.40. Charleston is a must watch for any NC State sprint fans.
While the field events will consist of the long jump, high jump, pole vault, and shot put. Luckily, both Cobb and Davis participate in the long jump as well as the triple. Davis dominated the Hokie Invitational with a first place finish of 7.43 meters, and is looking to remain on top. Unfortunately, Cobb fouled out at the Hokie Invitational, but she is looking to redeem herself in Texas and secure a place for the Wolfpack.
The next time the Pack hits the track will be on Feb. 7 at the Camel City invitational. If NC State can keep rolling like it did against Virginia Tech, the Pack can make a stir in Texas and carry that to Winston-Salem.
