The NC State women’s basketball team is set to play the rival Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.
Coming off an impressive win over No. 13 Florida State, the Wolfpack (16-1, 5-1 ACC) has all the necessary skills needed to continue its winning streak and breeze past the Deacons.
Wake Forest (11-6, 4-2 ACC) will be coming off a conference win against Virginia, but previously lost to No. 7 Louisville, an ACC powerhouse the Pack has yet to face.
The Wolfpack will be looking to dominate the Demon Deacons with the help of sophomore center Elissa Cunane, who left the Florida State match as NC State’s top scorer and rebounder with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Also looking to lead the Wolfpack is senior guard Aislinn Konig, who is averaging 10.8 points per game and has had a few of her highest-scoring games in the past few weeks.
Other key players for the Wolfpack will be junior forward Kayla Jones and junior guard Kai Crutchfield, both helping the Pack and contributing about nine points per game.
Going into the match, the Wolfpack will have to watch for junior forward Ivana Raca of the Deacons, who averages 10.2 points per game, coming out on top as Wake Forest’s leading scorer. Right behind Raca is senior guard Alex Sharp, averaging 10.1 points per game.
With Wake Forest averaging 69 points per game, the Wolfpack will need to look to get points on the board early and continue to play its strong defensive game. The Wolfpack is allowing fewer than 55 points per game and just held the high-powered Florida State offense to 26 points below its season average. By doing so, the Pack should have no problem sending the Deacons back to Winston-Salem with loss.
