Engineering Building II from Partners Way. University Police responded to a suspicious package inside the building, which was determined to not be explosive or of any concern.
An item left in Engineering Building II on Thursday was determined by NC State University Police not to be an explosive device or otherwise a threat.
University Police received a call on Thursday at approximately 2:39 p.m. telling of a suspicious package left in an office suite, according to NC State. Following that call, Engineering Building II was self-evacuated by people inside the building.
Officers and explosive detection K9 teams responded to the scene, concluding that there was no explosive device in Engineering Building II.
“We responded to a call over here about an item that was left in the building that there was concern about,” said NC State University Police Chief Jack Moorman. “So we’ve checked that device and that device is not explosive.”
Moorman added that the decision to evacuate was made by individuals in the building, not the police department.
Major Ian Kendrick of University Police stated that the package was a brown paper bag containing a PlayStation and a person’s medical records.
Kendrick and Moorman stated that the entire building is being searched as an extra precaution.
