The NC State softball team returns home to Dail Softball Stadium to face Boston College this weekend.
The Pack (20-16, 4-7) went 0-3 on a four game road trip, including losing two of three to Louisville last weekend. The Eagles (16-15, 5-3) have won seven in a row, including back-to-back sweeps against Syracuse and Virginia the last two weekends.
Sophomore infielder Haylee Kobziak leads the Wolfpack in hitting, currently at a .357 clip on the season. Freshman infielder Chandley Garner leads NC State with eight home runs and is hitting .303 so far this season. Freshman infielder Timberlyn Shurbutt has hit six home runs for the Pack this year.
Sophomore pitcher Devin Wallace and freshman pitcher Kama Woodall have been excellent for the Wolfpack in the circle this year. Wallace is 11-8 with a 2.56 ERA while Woodall is 6-5 with a 2.90 ERA.
The Eagles only have two hitters batting over .300, senior Chloe Sharabba hitting .351 and senior Anna Murphy hitting .313. As a team, BC has eleven home runs and Sharabba has three of them. The Eagles are hitting .240 as a team.
While their offense isn’t great, the Eagles’ pitching is just as good, if not better than the Wolfpack’s. The Eagles are second in the ACC with a 2.13 ERA. Redshirt junior Allyson Frei and senior Jessica Dreswick have pitched all but one inning for the Eagles this year. Frei is 4-7 with a 1.98 ERA while Dreswick is 10-8 with a 2.24 ERA.
Because both pitching staffs are so good, this series will likely come down to which offense can manufacture more runs. Runs will be few and far between, so whichever team takes advantage of more opportunities will probably win.
The series will start with a doubleheader on Friday. Games will start at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Game three is Sunday at 12 p.m. All games will be played at Dail Softball Stadium and broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
