The NC State track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend at the ACC Championships in Coral Gables, Florida this past weekend, walking away with six podium finishes including two gold medals.
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team captured gold for the Pack for the third year in a row, as the team of senior Shannon Patterson, sophomore Cravont Charleston, redshirt junior Abdur Rahmaah Kelly and sophomore Dylan Peebles came across the line in 39.38. The Wolfpack trailed entering the final leg, but Peebles came from behind to cross the line first.
Sophomore Elly Henes also captured a gold medal during the weekend, finishing first in the 5,000-meter run on the final day of competition for the second conference title of her career. Like the men’s 4×100-meter team, Henes came from behind at the end to win her gold.
In addition to the two first place finishes, the Wolfpack also captured three silver medals during the championships. Charleston placed second in the 100-meter run, the second straight year he has reached the podium in the event. Patterson also garnered All-ACC honors in the 100m with a seventh place finish.
However, Patterson’s biggest individual accomplishment came in the 200-meter run, where he collected a silver medal of his own after running a time of 20.54. It was the first individual podium of his career.
To go along with Patterson’s and Charleston’s silver medals, junior Gabriele Cunningham ran a 23.04 in the 200m to also find herself on the podium with a silver medal. The other podium finish for the Pack came in the women’s 10,000-meter run, where redshirt senior Erica Kemp placed third.
The Pack had a number of other All-ACC honors, including junior Elijah Moskowitz in the 10,000m and redshirt senior Grant Rivers in the decathlon. In the field, redshirt senior Joshua Davis and redshirt junior Lauren Evans also garnered All-ACC respects.
As a team, the Wolfpack men placed eighth out of the 14 teams. The NC State women placed 10th out of 15.
The Wolfpack will now head to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Tampa, Florida, which will begin on May 24.
