The 19th-ranked NC State men’s tennis team defeated Furman 7-0 to extend its season-opening win streak to nine games Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
Juniors Ivor and Ivan Saveljic got the Pack (9-0) off to a quick start with a 6-0 doubles win over the Paladins (9-3) Drew Singerman and Ivan Mitric.
Sophomore No. 16 Alexis Galarneau and freshman Tadas Babelis won their doubles match 7-6(4) on a tiebreaker while junior Georgiy Malyshev and redshirt junior Michael Ogden won their tiebreaker, which was cut short, 4-2.
Igor Saveljic defeated Mitric 6-1, 6-1, which the clinched the match for the Wolfpack. Babelis improved to 8-1 on the season individually with 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jake Munns. Malyshev defeated Singerman 6-1, 6-2 for another singles victory for NC State.
In the only ranked matchup on the day, No. 19 Galarneau had a comeback win over No. 110 Cameron Green. Galarneau lost the first set 6-3 before winning 7-6(4) and the tiebreaking buster 10-6.
Freshman Robert Turzak and Ivan Saveljic also had come-from-behind victories to cap the afternoon. Turzak won 5-7, 6-3, and the tiebreaker 10-5. Saveljic won 4-6, 7-6(4) and 10-8.
The Pack takes on No. 24 Texas on Friday in its next match. First serve will be at 4 p.m. at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
