For just over three years, Campus Smiles, owned by a satellite dentist office company called Dent-Well, has been helping NC State students maintain healthy dental habits on Main and Centennial Campus.
With their new advertising methods, workers at Campus Smiles hope to inform more students of the dental services that they offer students, including flexible scheduling for procedures ranging from cleaning to Invisalign.
Kristi Christopher, office manager, and Asolaide Akinkuotu, a senior in international studies and campus ambassador for Campus Smiles, shared information on how NC state students can utilize the resource.
“We are a full-service dental office,” Christopher said. “We provide all dental care that a normal dental office would. We refer out to oral surgeons, or if you need a root canal we would refer out for that also. We see emergency patients and patients that come back every six months for their cleaning.”
In terms of insurance, Christopher said Campus Smiles is in network with Met Life, Delta Dental, Aetna Dental, Guardian and United Concordia among others.
Christopher described the wide variety of dental services that Campus Smiles provides.
“On a day-to-day basis we do fillings, crowns, cleanings, x-rays [and] exams. Occasionally we’ll have root canals or emergency visits,” Christopher said. “We also offer Invisalign in our office.”
Christopher also said that two of the three Campus Smiles locations in North Carolina are at NC State.
“[Campus Smiles] has offices in North Carolina: two at NC State–one on Main Campus and one on Centennial–and the other is located at Duke,” Christopher said. “We are located in the Student Health Center on Main Campus. On Centennial we are in Wolf Ridge Plaza Hall.”
As the Campus Ambassador, Akinkuotu is in charge of revamping Campus Smiles’ advertising on campus. She described some of the most recent events geared towards student outreach.
“Since we are so new, Campus Smiles has not been properly advertised the way it should be to students,” Akinkuotu said. “I am trying to increase their social media presence — because that is really important in our generation — as well as their on-campus presence. We did a tabling event in Talley with a raffle for a free teeth-whitening session. We are trying to increase our visibility and explain to students what we have to offer and that we are available for them.”
A patient at Campus Smiles herself, Akinkuotu said that she was pleasantly surprised to see how much the dentist office values NC State students. She said Campus Smiles is eager to work with students’ busy schedules to make appointments.
“They work with your schedule, and you don’t have to feel like you are going out of the way to get your teeth cleaned,” Akinkuotu said. “It is a great resource. Campus Smiles is really tailoring themselves towards students by being affordable and convenient.”
