The No. 15 NC State women’s basketball team travels to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 22-23.
The Wolfpack (4-0) will play Michigan State (3-0) on Thursday and George Washington (1-3) on Friday.
NC State has gotten off to a quick start this season with four wins, all by 15 points or more. The Spartans have three wins, all of which have been by at least 16 points.
The Pack hangs its hat on offensive versatility, as four players are averaging 13 points per game or more, led by graduate guard Kiara Leslie with 14.3. Defensively, the Wolfpack is as stellar as ever under head coach Wes Moore, holding teams to 58.8 points per game and a 34 field goal percentage.
Michigan State is averaging 86 points per game and also has four players averaging double figures so far this year. Jenna Allen leads the team with 14.7 per contest. The Spartans are allowing 63.3 points per game, but the NC State offense will be their first challenge of the season.
Shooting from behind the arc will be a key in this game. The Spartans are shooting 40 percent while the Pack is shooting 42 percent.
The Colonials got a win over Princeton, but have since lost two in a row, including a game against No. 10 Maryland.
George Washington’s struggles have come on the offensive side, as the team averages only 43.5 points per game and is shooting 30 percent from the field. The Colonials are solid defensively, allowing 55 points per game, but it’s going to be tough to win games without a better offense. George Washington did score 64 points in a win over Princeton.
Mei-Lyn Bautista leads the team in scoring, but she is only averaging 8.7 per game. She is shooting 28 percent from the field.
The Wolfpack and Spartans tip at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pack and Colonials will start at 4 p.m. The games will be broadcast on College Sports Live online.
