Junior defensive end Bradley Chubb and Assistant Head Coach for Defense George Barlow celebrate after forcing a turnover on downs. Chubb was felt all over the field with a tackle for a loss, a breakup, and a forced fumble during the 21-14 homecoming loss to Boston College on Oct. 29, 2016 in Carter Finley Stadium.
The Week 9 NFL slate featured a battle of NC State’s two top quarterback alums in Seattle. Bradley Chubb also continued his quest for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Let’s review how NC State’s NFL alums fared this week.
Philip Rivers, quarterback, Los Angeles Chargers
Rivers kept with his consistent performances on Sunday as he started his 200th consecutive game against former NC State quarterback standout Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. Rivers completed 50 percent of his passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns on the day. With just over half the season completed, Rivers has shown the ability to lead the Chargers’ offense and distribute the ball effectively.
Russell Wilson, quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson completed 67 percent of his passes on Sunday for 235 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers’ defense gave Wilson a difficult time as he was sacked four times and threw an interception. Another tough test will come for the Seahawks next week as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the 8-1 Rams.
Bradley Chubb, outside linebacker, Denver Broncos
Chubb and the Broncos took a tough 19-17 loss to the Texans at home Sunday after a potential game-winning field goal was missed by Broncos kicker Brandon McManus. However, Chubb had an admirable game with six total tackles, one sack, and three tackles for loss. Chubb will have his number honored during NC State’s Thursday night game against Wake Forest this week.
Josh Jones, safety, Green Bay Packers
In his fifth game of the season, Jones collected six total tackles and four solo tackles in the Packers’ 31-17 loss to the New England Patriots Sunday night.
Justin Jones, defensive tackle, Los Angeles Chargers
Jones finished Sunday’s game against the Seahawks with two tackles. He has played in all eight games this season for the Chargers.
Stephen Hauschka, kicker, Buffalo Bills
Hauschka was 1 for 1 on field goals Sunday knocking down a 41 yarder in the Bills’ 41-9 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Jaylen Samuels, running back, Pittsburgh Steelers
Following his NFL debut last Sunday, Samuels had one carry for 2 yards in the Steelers’ 23-16 win over the Ravens.
Note: Pack Pros Nyheim Hines, B.J. Hill, Jacoby Brissett, Mike Glennon and David Grinnage were all on bye this past week.
