Rave! Events has been a resource for any organization that wishes to hold events in places such as Talley Student Union and Witherspoon Student Center.
According to the Rave! Events website, they provide event planning, venues and food to NC State students, faculty and staff.
Tim Hogan, director of NC State* Student Centers, explained the purpose of Rave! Events.
“Rave! Events is a collaboration between NC State Student Centers and University Dining, so Rave! is a one-stop shop for event planners,” Hogan said.
Rave! Events provides many types of services to the community, from reserving the ballrooms in Talley Student Union to outdoor events. The prices of these services vary but tend to be about $75 to $125 per hour.
These prices do have a chance to increase due to various fees such as late cancellation fees (50 percent of rental fee), external catering fee ($25 or 10 percent of the total catering bill, whichever is greater) and non-refundable deposits (25 percent of room fee).
The collaboration of NC State* Dining and NC State Student Centers also allows for dining to cater to event guests. Hogan said that the goal of the organization is to be in service for those who wish to use student spaces for events.
“I think it is to provide that service component to student [organizations], departments and any other non-university groups that want to plan events and use space within the student centers [such as] Talley Student Union,” Hogan said.
Allison Metts, the reservation coordinator of Rave! Events discussed her role in being the first to communicate with clients to help enhance their experience.
“I [work with] the first wave of customers,” Metts said. “So when the request is made, I supervise the student workers and we look at their guidelines for events, and I have that first line of communication with the client.”
Amy Clemmons, a second-year studying political science, talked about her experience working with Rave! Events for a Student Government banquet, specifically with catering for the event.
“I would say the overall experience was positive, and the only downside was that we could only order hors d’oeuvres, which means people were pretty hungry,” Clemmons said. “They would always communicate with us very quickly, making the reservation process easy.”
Metts said that having proper communication with clients is necessary for Rave! Events to be successful.
Hogan talked about how important collaboration between NC State Student Centers and NC State* Dining is to the Rave! Events experience.
“The concept of acting as one department instead of two departments that work together,” Hogan said. “So from the client’s perspective, they don’t know that [Rave! Events] is two departments working together.”
