NC State volleyball will be taking on UNC-Chapel Hill in a revenge game at Reynolds Coliseum Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Earlier this season, the Wolfpack went on the road to face off against the Tar Heels with a great start that soon fell to disaster. In the first set, the Pack defeated the Tar Heels 25-17. The Pack would then go on to have three close set losses that would end the match in the Tar Heels’ favor.
The Wolfpack will be coming out to defeat its rival on its own court with a winning streak extending over the past three matches. In comparison, the Tar Heels are on a winning streak of two games after a loss to Duke in three sets. The Wolfpack defeated Duke in five sets earlier this year and has what it needs to take down the Tar Heels if it can come out fast, keep its momentum and have the Tar Heels react to the Pack, not the other way around.
Last time against the Tar Heels, senior middle blocker Teni Sopitan led NC State in attacking with 19 kills. Following her performance, outside hitters sophomore Melissa Evans and freshman Jade Parchment had 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Defensively at the net, junior middle blocker Lauryn Terry had five blocks. In the back row, Parchment had 14 digs followed by senior setter Kylie Pickrell and senior libero Makenzie Kuchmaner had 13 digs each.
Kuchmaner even had two of the Pack’s four service aces and six assists. Pickrell had 46 assists.
Last season, the Pack also lost to the Tar Heels in four sets at Chapel Hill, but defeated the Heels at home in five sets with the home-court advantage and a supportive crowd.
The Wolfpack should keep an eye out for Destiny Cox, who was able to score 21.5 points on the Pack, nearly an entire set worth. Ava Bell was also able to get in 10 blocks on top of her 12 kills against the Pack.
It’ll be a close match as both teams will be relentless to defeat the other, not only for an ACC win but for bragging rights against a rival.
