The NC State men’s soccer team defeated Longwood 2-0 on Tuesday night in Farmville, Virginia.
The Wolfpack (7-3-2) got goals from senior forward Tanner Roberts and sophomore midfielder David Loera in the second half to knock off Longwood (3-9-0) in its last nonconference match of the year.
NC State was coming off a loss on Friday night to Boston College and needed to get off to a quick start against a team that has struggled this year. Loera broke the ice less than a minute into the second half by dribbling past a defender and beat the Lancers goalie, Miguel Bayma, to the right.
In the 55th minute, Roberts found the back of the net for the second time this season on a cross from sophomore forward Manny Perez. Loera was credited with an assist as well.
Aside from just the scoreboard, the Wolfpack dominated in all aspects of the game. NC State recorded 17 shots, six of which were on net, and attempted 13 corner kicks. On the other side, the Lancers attempted a shot three times, only one of which made it to the net, and didn’t take a corner kick.
Sophomore goalie Leon Krapf had one of the easier shutouts of his career, which was his sixth of the season.
The Pack hasn’t won an ACC game since Sept. 21 but will look to change that on Friday night against rival UNC-Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels are the top-ranked team in the country and travel to Raleigh for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Dail Soccer Field. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
