No. 23 NC State women’s soccer continues ACC play on the road at Syracuse on Thursday night.
The Wolfpack (8-3-2, 1-2-1 ACC) is coming off a 2-1 loss at Notre Dame where senior midfielder Taylor Porter scored the team’s only goal, her first of the season. Before the Irish, the Pack tied No. 17 Duke 1-1 at home.
Against Duke, junior midfielder Tziarra King scored her seventh goal of the season with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game to tie the score. King leads NC State in scoring by four goals over freshman midfielder Anna Toohey and junior forward Kia Rankin.
The Orange (3-9, 0-4 ACC) have not had as much success this season. Syracuse has lost seven matches in a row, getting outscored 2-18 during that stretch. The team’s last four matches were losses against ACC competition in No. 17 Duke, No. 11 Boston College, Louisville and Miami.
Syracuse gives up an average of two goals per game, while the Pack only allows just over one goal per game (1.08). The Orange also average .5 goals per game, showing how unproductive their offense has been. For comparison, NC State is averaging 1.85 goals a game.
NC State has a 4-1 record on the road this year, showing its capability to succeed in this stretch of away games. The Pack’s only road loss was it’s last game against Notre Dame. After Syracuse, it has two away matches against No. 11 Boston College and No. 10 Florida State.
The Pack will start it’s match against Syracuse on Thursday at 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium in Syracuse, New York.
