This week, NC State students, faculty, staff and alumni are coming together to celebrate the annual Red and White Week, which celebrates university traditions.
Events such as Penny Wars on Oct. 31 will be taking place throughout the week and proceeds for many events will go to initiatives such as the Student Emergency Fund. NC State campus organizations will also have a bake sale in the Brickyard for the College of Veterinary Medicine C30 Fund, which goes to canine cancer research.
On Nov. 1, the Holmes Hall dedication ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at what is now known as University College Commons. The hall will be named after Irwin Holmes, a Durham native who graduated from NC State in 1960 with a degree in electrical engineering and was one of the first four African-American students to attend the university.
Traditions such as Hillsborough Street Clean Up will take place on Nov. 1 and begin at 10 a.m. There will also be exhibitions at Gregg Museum of Art & Design for Red and White Week such as Vernon Pratt’s “All the Possibilities of Sixteen” and “Our Living Past,” which highlights local jazz, blues and folk performers.
The Red and White Week parade will take place on Hillsborough Street at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, and on Saturday, the Homecoming football game will take place at Carter-Finley Stadium, where the Wolfpack will play against Florida State University.
The Leader of the Pack will also be announced at the game. Students can vote for the Leader of the Pack on the Leadership and Civic Engagement website.
