Last year, StateView Hotel opened its doors on Centennial Campus completing the vision of creating a meeting place for conversation, exchanging ideas and innovation.
After eight years of planning and construction and one year of being in service, the hotel has already become a location for many partners of NC State and symposiums for the university.
Karris Deis, director of sales and marketing at StateView Hotel, said that the funds came from an investment fund company (Noble Investment Group) and NC State is a major partner of StateView.
“The hotel was built by an investment fund company out of Atlanta and we are managed by interstate hotels and resorts and the NC State University is a partner and a customer of ours,” Deis said.
According to Deis, the idea for StateView was part of Chancellor Randy Woodson’s plan for the university. StateView continues to partner with NC State to talk about ways to bring people together on Centennial Campus.
“We talk about how we can work together with the golf course and the Park Alumni Center, how we share workers resources, how we make the customers experience easy if they use multiple venues here on Centennial Campus,” Deis said. “We talk about what departments we can do a better job of serving. We provide the results of our NC State production with NC State and we also have a customer advisory board that we have in conjunction with NC State University.”
In an interview with PR Newswire in 2017, NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson said that the hotel has been a critical part of the vision of NC State.
“We’ve always had a vision. This hotel project has been part of that vision since the beginning,” Woodson said in the interview. “It’s a critical piece for creating a campus that really embodies creating a place where people live, work and play, where they do research and where they collaborate.”
Other than a hotel, Deis said that a major attractor of StateView is that its purpose in the organization is to be a hub of research and sharing of ideas.
“What we have found, the events that are NC State related, it’s typically a symposium where NC State is being a host university bringing in people from all over the U.S. and the globe to talk about an issue,” Deis said. “That is exactly the reason we’re built. Our purpose is to bring people together to collaborate, to share ideas and move businesses forward, move discoveries forward.”
Deis said that a lot of the programs the hotel hosts for the university are groups of people coming together to discuss issues facing an industry and how they can alter things to make it better.
According to the StateView website, the hotel has 10,000 square feet of event spaces as well as other conference or collaborative spaces throughout the hotel.
“The conference space allows them to host workshops, breakout sessions and have guest speakers to bring them together to accomplish their goal, their business objective,” Deis said.
Since its opening in October 2017, Deis said that the hotel has had tremendous success, including scheduling more events for the upcoming years.
“We served 25,000 breakfasts, lunch or dinners in our first year,” Deis said. “… We have more than we expected future events right now. We have more events scheduled for 2019 and 2020 than we expected.”
Deis said that she hopes more students look to StateView to help them put on events or provide utilities such as rooms or meals for their families.
“We’re here,” Deis said. “We welcome their business, we welcome providing catered events, guest rooms, restaurants, lunches for their parents, for athletes, for departments and for the local community.”
