Food is essential for survival, but what many of us don’t think about is what kind of food we put in our bodies. Matt Whitley and Tyler Helikson, North Carolina State University Alumni, decided to change that with their business Happy + Hale. Happy + Hale provides delicious and healthy foods to their customers so they can not only eat well but work well too.
Happy + Hale is a restaurant that provides customers with healthy food that help customers find better alternatives to fast food and greasy dishes. Happy + Hale is not only pushing for a healthier dish on a customer’s plate but also a positive impact on the environment. The food containers that Happy + Hale provides are completely compostable and the utensils can also be composted.
In recent years, many people and businesses have started looking into healthier food options to serve, with the goal of taking action to make the lives of Americans healthier and happier. Happy + Hale has provided that through nutritious foods. The atmosphere also provides a place where customers can relax after a long day of work or go to with a bunch of friends.
The atmosphere has a welcoming ambiance that brings the customers in and leaves them with not only nutritious food in hand, but with a fresh positive feeling on their mind. The positivity is not only from the healthy food that is provided to customers but also to the outgoing employees that make the menu items.
“They are healthy, they have a great vibe, and the employees are very friendly,” said Jeannine Beson, one of the venue’s customers.
The menu of Happy + Hale is full of plant forward that’s not only nourishing but environmentally friendly as well. Their menu ranges from salads bowls to smoothies for a refreshing meal. If you also don’t have time for breakfast, there an all-day breakfast menu specifically for those who like to eat a late breakfast.
One item allows customers to “create-their-own” salad bowl with any ingredients they like, whether it with a ton of greens, full of whole grains, or a mix of both. Then customers can add an assortment of vegetables, healthy cheeses, beans, meat, toppings, and dressing to make the perfect salad bowl.
“I like to create my own [dish] and I also like the incredibowl,” Beson said.
If you don’t have the luxury to create your own salad bowl, then they have plenty of options that employees can make quickly.
“I haven’t tried anything yet, but I’m thinking [that my favorite dish is] the pita bowl,” said Norell Stevens, a customer at Happy + Hale.
Customers are loved by all the staff and they are welcoming to any customer, whether new or old to come and eat at Happy + Hale.
“[I’ve been going] since they’ve opened,” Beson said.
Many consumers nowadays are trying to find alternatives to various fast food restaurants in order to live a healthier lifestyle.
“Well, we’ve been looking for healthier alternatives for takeout food,” Stevens said.
The employees and staff have made Happy + Hale a place where people from all over North and South Carolina can come to have a delectable and healthy meal. Happy + Hale locations are in Raleigh’s City Plaza and North Hills, Durham and Greenville, South Carolina.
NCSU Libraries will be holding an event featuring one of the co-founders of Happy + Hale, Matt Whitley, on Oct. 11 in the auditorium at D. H. Hill.
