NC State volleyball is in for a busy weekend in the Wolfpack-Camels Invitational, which is co-hosted by NC State and Campbell. The invitational will be held at Reynolds Coliseum with the first match starting Friday at 11 a.m.
The Pack can be expected to have a strong offensive lineup with sophomore outside hitter Melissa Evans, senior middle blocker Teni Sopitan and freshman outside hitter Jade Parchment.
Last weekend, the trio were the top scorers against Arkansas State, SMU and Creighton in Dallas. Sopitan and Parchment scored double digits in all three matches. Throughout the three games, Evans and Parchment scored 35 points apiece and Sopitan scored 36 points.
The Pack should also continue to make efforts for its defense up at the net with graduate middle blocker Keira Moore, who had 10 blocks over the course of the weekend. If the Pack can take control not only offensively, but defensively, then it will have an easier time going on runs and closing games in three sets.
The Wolfpack has not faced Campbell since 2016, when the Pack won 3-1. The Pack had lost the first set but then quickly cleaned up in the following three sets for the victory. Last season, Campbell went 20-12 overall.
The Wolfpack hasn’t faced Wright State since 2002, when the Pack lost 3-0. Last year, the Raiders had a losing season going 11-18.
The Pack has never faced Utah Valley. The Wolverines went 15-16 last year.
Not only will the weekend be busy and a lot of work for the Wolfpack, taking on two teams in one day, but it is also the second weekend in a row where the Pack has a weekend tournament. It will also give the team a challenge to play teams that it has little experience with, and will have to be able to change tactics on the floor as each team presents themselves.
The Wolfpack will have a doubleheader on Friday, its first match being against Wright State at 2 p.m. and later that night the Pack will face off against Utah Valley at 7 p.m.
The Pack will close the invitational against its co-host on Sunday at 2 p.m.
