Hurricane Florence, which is currently at Category 4, is expected to make landfall on the North Carolina coast by Friday morning and impact central North Carolina, including Raleigh.
The hurricane could bring winds up to 140 miles per hour and up to 10 inches of rain to Wake County. Governor Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency and sent President Trump a request for a federal emergency declaration. NC State has cancelled classes and suspended operations starting Wednesday at noon and are currently scheduled to resume Monday.
While it is advisable for those who are able to, leave the area, resident and dining halls will be open. Below are some highlights from the American Red Cross’s checklist that students are recommended to have if they decide to stay in their dorm or apartment in Raleigh, particularly in the event of power outages.
