NC State head baseball coach Elliott Avent and head women’s soccer coach Tim Santoro have both had new contracts approved by the NC State Board of Trustees, NC State Athletics announced Friday.
Avent has been in charge of the baseball program since 1996, while Santoro took the reigns of women’s soccer in November of 2012. Avent’s new contract will last through 2021, with options for more years based on performance. Avent’s previous contract was set to expire following the 2019 season.
“Coach Avent has led NC State baseball for over two decades, and we’re glad he will continue as our leader for years to come,” Director of Athletics Debbie Yow told NC State Athletics. “He works tirelessly, recruits at a high level, and we look forward to his continued leadership.”
Santoro and NC State agreed to a two-year extension on his current deal, locking him in through 2022.
“Coach Santoro continues to do an exceptional job building our women’s soccer program,” Yow said. “He recruits at a high level, has elevated NC State, and this contract reflects our commitment.”
Avent is the winningest coach in NC State baseball history, and is coming off of a successful year that saw the Pack host an NCAA Regional. His crowning achievement with the Pack came in 2013, when NC State went to the College World Series.
“I look forward to leading the Wolfpack for years to come maintaining the consistency that has become a hallmark of NC State baseball,” Avent told NC State Athletics.
Santoro has experienced incredible success in his five-plus years at NC State, and that success has magnified in recent years. The Wolfpack has made the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons, and looks to be on track to make it again this year. Last season, NC State reached the Sweet 16.
“I’ve enjoyed my time at NC State and in Raleigh and am so thankful to Debbie and the administration,” Santoro told NC State Athletics. “While we’ve made some great strides, there’s still so much more to accomplish and I’m just excited for the opportunity to keep leading a top ACC program.”
The financials of both contracts were not released by NC State Athletics in their statement.
First-year women’s soccer head coach Tim Santoro has led the Pack to a 2-0 record through the team’s first two games of 2013.
