A 25-foot-wide pedestrian tunnel is in the works to be built this year under Trinity Road. The tunnel will provide easy access from parking lots to Carter-Finley Stadium and the NC State Fairgrounds and should be completed by September of this year.
According to The News & Observer, a pedestrian tunnel under Trinity Road that will connect the parking at the NC State Fair Grounds to Carter-Finley Stadium will not be ready in time for NC State football’s season opener against James Madison Sept. 1, as originally hoped.
North Carolina Department of Transportation resident engineer Chad Hinnant told The News & Observer that the Crowder Construction Company of Charlotte should be done with the tunnel by Sept. 15, in time for the Wolfpack’s third game of the season against West Virginia.
This means fans will have to cross Trinity Road as normal for the season’s first two games against JMU and Georgia State, and will also have to navigate around the construction site. Hinnant cited the heavy rains the Triangle area has experienced the past few weeks as the reason the tunnel is behind schedule.
