This year, the Student Ticket Advisory Committee in cooperation with the Athletics department will be rolling out a new program that will make it easier for students to obtain parking passes for home football games.
Executive Chief of Staff Ryan Dunn, a third-year studying political science, oversees the Student Government Athletics Department. Dunn has been part of the committee working on the initiative throughout the summer, and has been filling in as director of athletics until a replacement can be found.
According to Dunn, students will be able to request parking passes to games online the same way they have been able to request game tickets* in the past. If students are notified that they have received parking passes through their emails, they will be able to simply attend the ticket distribution and obtain their passes without a long wait time.
“You can go in and click ‘request a student ticket’ and click ‘request a parking pass’ and there are two different lotteries going on,” Dunn said. “There will be a lottery for the parking pass and then if you receive a parking pass, you will be able to just walk up at one of the ticket distributions and you can get marked off and you can receive it.”
Dunn said that this method of handing out the passes to students will cut down on the waiting time before distribution.
“This is actually the first semester that we’re rolling out the new parking pass distribution,” Dunn said. “In the past, there would be four ticket distributions during the week and they would all be first-come first-serve. There was a ticket distribution at 9 a.m. at the Brickyard, people would start lining up at 8, 7:30 a.m., and waiting before Athletics even got there.”
According to Dunn, 75 percent of the parking passes will be available to get through the new lottery system while the rest of the tickets will be saved for the general distribution that is typically on the Friday before the football game.
Student Government is currently working to publicize the change in parking pass distribution method, as it was a major project the Student Ticket Advisory Committee had been working on during the summer.
“Our communications department is working to produce publicity for this so that students are aware for this new policy,” Dunn said. “This is honestly the biggest thing the Student Ticket Advisory Committee has worked on all summer and we haven’t met since late July, and hopefully the next time we meet the new athletics director be able to attend and I can transition out of the role.”
The position of director of athletics, who serves as the person of contact for student questions and concerns regarding ticketing, is currently vacant and the Executive Branch is accepting applications until Saturday at 8 a.m.
“The responsibility of the athletics director is to co-chair the Student Ticket Advisory Committee; they handle all loyalty point appeals,” Dunn said. “We book and manage locations for the parking pass distributions and they serve as the point person for any questions regarding student ticketing.”
More information about the new football game parking pass lottery can be found on the NC State Athletics website. Students who are interested can apply for the director of athletics position here.
