NC State track and field’s redshirt senior Erika Kemp, redshirt junior Lauren Evans and sophomore Elly Henes will be making the trip to Eugene, Oregon this Wednesday for the start of the NCAA Outdoor Championship that will last until Saturday.
The Pack only qualified for individual events this season and only women’s events as none of the men made it past the preliminaries.
Long-distance runners Kemp and Henes will be representing the Wolfpack in the 5,000-meter run after placing first and second, respectively, in their own heats. Overall, Kemp ranked first while Henes placed fourth in the preliminaries that send the top five to the NCAA’s.
This will mark Kemp’s third time advancing to the NCAA Championship while it is Henes’ first appearance.
The only field event that the Pack qualified for was the shot put competed by Evans. Evans placed ninth out of the top 12 that move on to the Championship. It will be Evans first time in qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
Despite it being Evans’ first appearance in the Championship, she is no stranger to the competitive atmosphere. Last season, Evans was short two spots of advancing to the NCAA’s but was able to qualify in a berth and had finished ninth.
This four-day event will mark the ending of this year’s track and field season for the Pack.
