The NC State track and field participants in the NCAA Outdoor National Championships wrapped up the three-day event this past Saturday in Eugene, Oregon. NC State did notably well on the track while the field event came to an early close.
The Wolfpack’s distance runners redshirt senior Erika Kemp and sophomore Elly Henes both earned second team All-American honors for their performance in the 5,000-meter run. Kemp saw a career best at 10th place after advancing to the championship for the third time in her career and second season in a row. Kemp’s All-American status for her performances both indoor and outdoor have racked up a total of six honors.
In contrast to veteran Kemp, Henes appeared for her first time in the outdoor championships and finished 16th, earning her first All-American honors for this tournament to go along with the honors she earned during the indoor championships.
For fielding events, redshirt junior Lauren Evans made her appearance competing in shot put. This was Evan’s first time qualifying in the outdoor championships after placing ninth in the preliminary rounds. Evans did not make it past the first day as her score was not high enough to advance forward into the championship.
The conclusion of the outdoor championships also marks the end of the 2017-2018 season for the Wolfpack.
