Despite heavy rain throughout the afternoon, American Idol finalist Scott McCreery still threw out a pitch at Doak Field Saturday, May 14 and participated in an impromptu slip ‘n’ slide with the team.
Several hundred fans, some students, came out to see McCreery’s arrival on Varsity Drive despite heavy rain throughout the evening.
“Obviously we’re avid fans if we’re here in the rain,” Ashlyn Doby, a sophomore in accounting, said.
Doby, along with her younger sister Caroline and sophomore in business administration Kaley Baughman, followed McCreery from his performance with country singer Josh Turner and appearance at Lowes Foods in Garner to his appearance at Doak Field.
“We’ve been creeping on him all day,” Baughman said.
Deborah Holleman of Durham and her daughter, Kim Paige of Creedmoor, came out to see McCreery after Paige’s son’s baseball game.
“It was a spur of the moment decision,” Holleman said. “My grandson had a baseball game so we couldn’t go to Lake Vincent, but we decided to come out here to see Scotty.”
Paige has been a fan of McCreery since his debut on American Idol.
“I’ve followed him since day one,” Paige said.
After his appearance at NCSU, McCreery left to attend the Garner High School prom.
