For students looking to become the next Nicolas Cage or Angelina Jolie, Hollywood has come to the Brickyard.
Alumnus Taylor Adams, class of 2009, is currently involved in the making of the feature film, Mendacity, and sees great potential in using campus and community in the film.
Mendacity takes place in a small town in NC and tells the story of three friends—Theo, Bobby, and Ray. In the film they encounter a manipulating and mysterious woman, Jules, and later the three friends are framed with a heinous murder they did not commit. To free themselves, they men must prove their innocence to Sheriff Daily, the lead investigator, all while figuring out who exactly Jules is.
Much of the filming of Mendacity will take place around the Raleigh area, including a large part on campus, and filmmakers want the student body to be an important part of the production. Adams wants students to get involved in any way they can.
“I hope we can use N.C . State throughout our production and post production of the film,” Adams said. “We would love to have students participating on the crew, or as extras, or in editing, or as main actors.”
No experience is needed for those who want to audition, and for aspiring actors and actresses, Adams thinks the experience of being involved in Mendacity would be very beneficial.
“I think if there are actors out there that truly want to make a name for themselves; that really want to either gain more experience or want more challenging roles, I think they can benefit from this opportunity,” Adams said. “The characters and the story is fresh, and dynamic, something you won’t see in a big budget Hollywood thriller.”
Currently, almost every character is up for grabs. For the role of Jules, Adams and the producers are looking for an attractive woman between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five. For the three friends, producers want a young Caucasian male for Theo, a lanky, goofy looking male for Bobby, and a stocky, athletic looking male for Bobby.
These types of people shouldn’t be too difficult to find around the NCSU campus, according to Adams.
Other needed characters include several police officers, an old lady and an anchorman.
Adams said the success of the film is dependent on N.C . State students and Raleigh residents who come out to help out and support Mendacity.
“We want everyone in our community including college campuses to truly feel apart of the film someway, somehow,” Adams said. “Without [the community], there’s no us.”
The first round of auditions for the film begin September 24 th and end the following day, with the second round continuing the first and second of October. Filming of Mendacity will occur over the summer for almost the entire month of June. A release date is scheduled for sometime in 2012.
Producers of the film plan to screen Mendacity on college campuses and art houses throughout the southeast. A large part of getting the film’s name out will be word of mouth and social media.
