Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump holds a rally in Dorton Arena on Monday. Gov. Pat McCrory and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee were among the speakers at the event. Trump urged people to go out and vote saying, "One more day!" repeatedly to the crowd.
Tuesday night turned out to be a double-header of election night shockers for North Carolina voters.
Businessman Donald Trump got out to an early lead on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and went on to surpass expectations of nearly every poll to carry North Carolina with 49.9 percent of the vote compared to Clinton’s 46.1 percent.
Gov. Pat McCrory held an approximately two-point lead for much of the night, but Attorney General Roy Cooper closed the gap late, eventually taking a 4,480 vote lead which will likely require a recount. In that case, winner of the election will not be decided until Nov. 18.
In their speeches to their supporters at the end of the night, McCrory promised that the election was not over, while Cooper claimed victory.
