North Carolina State Fair: Oct. 13 – 23
Popcorn and cotton candy flood the crisp air. With the first sight of the Ferris wheel towering in the sky, children can hardly stand still. Fair-goers gorge extraterrestrial treats in search of thrilling amusements. Fair hours are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Ticket prices are contingent upon one’s age and/or size of group.
The 31st International Festival of Raleigh: Oct. 14 – 16
Travel the globe in one weekend with NC’s largest international festival. Enjoy food and drinks from dozens of countries, performances and shopping. Doors open on Friday at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $6 – $11 per person.
Corgi picnic: Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Endure a 30-minute car ride from Raleigh and find yourself in a sea of corgis. There will be a potluck lunch and corgi enthusiasts from around the world. There will be a raffle of corgi items as well as donations from businesses, with proceeds benefitting CorgiAid. Admission is five dollars to assist in covering the cost of the rental facility. The event is this Saturday at 195 Robbins Road, Youngsville, North Carolina 27596.
Five Points fall festival and food truck rodeo: Oct. 16 from 4 – 7 p.m.
“Five Points Moms n Dads” and the Westminster Baptist Church sponsor the event. There will be a variety of food trucks, vendors and a bounce house. Check out the event at 301 E Whitaker Mill Rd in Raleigh.
“The Walking Dead”: Oct. 23 at 9 p.m.
Stop by Mission Valley Cinema for a free marathon of “The Walking Dead.”
Insect beer at the museum: Oct. 27 from 7 – 9 p.m.
Spice up your palate with insect beer from NC State’s Sheppard Brewing Lab. The North Carolina Museum of Art will be featuring NC State’s Department of Applied Ecology’s professor, Robert Dunn, and Anne Madden, a post-doctoral research scholar. Learn about yeast’s biological and social impacts. Admission is free, but a ticket is required.
“Poltergeist” at the Rialto Theatre: Oct. 27 from 7 – 10 p.m.
Stonewall Sports will be sponsoring a movie night; admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m.
“Adult Nights: Nocturnal by Nature”: Oct. 27 from 7 – 10 p.m.
Check out the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences after dark. The event is for adults 21 and older and offers an uncensored museum experience. The Nocturnal by Nature event features interactive science stations, music, games, local entertainment and more. Be sure to see rare museum oddities such as a two-headed cat. Best costume wins a prize. Take note that your costume must not obscure your face. Alcoholic beverages and food will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 and $10 for Friends of the Museum members. Photo ID required.
Rocky Horror Halloween Show: Oct. 28 11:30 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.
Check out the Rialto Theatre’s annual Halloween freak show. There will be a costume contest with cash prizes and an underwear run. Tickets are $6. Keep in mind the Rialto Theatre only accepts cash. Alcoholic beverages and snacks are available for purchase.
Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans shape the nation exhibit
The exhibit is the first of its kind to celebrate the achievements, contributions and adversity of the Indian Americans. It was created in partner with the Smithsonian’s Asian Pacific American Center. Find out what life was like for them via food, politics and culture. The exhibit opens Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. and will stay until April of 2017.
Raleigh Zombie Walk: Oct. 29 7 p.m.
Meet at 200 S Blount St. in Raleigh for the free annual zombie walk.
City Social Pints and Puppies Halloween: Oct. 30 from 1 – 5 p.m.
Take a stroll with your dog along the outdoor patios during this year’s Halloween Puppy Party. Meet at the Raleigh Beer Garden at 514 Glenwood Ave. Stops include Raleigh Beer Garden, Solas, Dos Taquitos, Hibernian Pub, Cornerstone Tavern and North Street Brewing Station. A portion of the proceeds goes to Hope Animal Rescue. The crawl costs $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Lynwood Brewing Company dog costume contest: Oct. 30 2-5 p.m.
