The 2016-17 NBA regular season is less than two weeks from beginning. Here are the NC State alumni who have been making an impact on the NBA offseason.
T.J. Warren
The former ACC Player of the Year and Pack forward is in his third season with the Phoenix Suns and is poised to have his best season yet. Before last year’s season-ending foot injury, Warren was averaging 11 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. This was a solid improvement from his rookie season, during which he averaged 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds. Warren has tallied five total starts in his career, but it was recently announced that he will be a regular starter this season. So far this preseason, Warren has averaged 12 points per game.
Lorenzo Brown
The former Pack point guard has been given a few opportunities with different teams over the past three seasons due to his stellar performance in the NBA D-League. From 2013 to 2016, he’s played 26 games with the Philadelphia 76ers, 29 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves and eight games with the Phoenix Suns. This preseason, he has been given an opportunity to make the Detroit Pistons’ Roster. So far he has averaged 5.5 points per game 1.5 steals per game.
Cat Barber
The former All-ACC guard and NC State standout left college after his third season to enter the draft. After failing to be drafted, Barber played for the New Orleans Pelicans during summer league. A head injury shortened his chance to impress during summer league, but the Philadelphia 76ers still found him impressive enough to add to their training camp roster. Barber is currently competing with a few other players for the backup point guard role. So far in preseason, Barber has averaged 5.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
Scott Wood
The former Wolfpack sharp shooter has spent the last three playing professional basketball in Spain for UCAM Murcia. Wood recently signed a deal to play with the Golden State Warriors for training camp. After playing in two games and averaging 1.5 points per game, he was cut from the roster. Wood could potentially be added to a D-League roster.
C.J. Williams
The former State guard recently signed a training camp deal with the Dallas Mavericks. So far he has played in four games and has averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds and one assist per game. He is competing for one of the final on the roster.
