NC State football alumni are scattered across the NFL, making names for themselves with productive careers. Here are some of the standouts from Weeks 4 and 5.
Philip Rivers, Quarterback, San Diego Chargers
Rivers put together great performances over the last two weeks; however, he didn’t get much help from his team, as the Chargers suffered two close losses, to the Saints in Week 4 and the Raiders in Week 5.
Against the Saints, Rivers completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 321 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. San Diego lost 35-34 after leading for much of the game. Against the Raiders, he completed 70 percent of his passes for 359 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. However, the Chargers fumbled that snap on what would’ve been the game-tying field goal, once again negating Rivers’ strong play.
Rivers is now tied for fourth in the NFL with 1,469 passing yards, and is tied for third with 11 passing touchdowns.
Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson and his Seahawks had a bye in Week 5 after he had his best game of the season against the New York Jets in Week 4. Seattle beat the Jets 27-17 as Wilson accounted for all three of his team’s touchdowns. He finished the day with 309 passing yards and a stellar 71.9 completion percentage.
Willie Young, Defensive End, Chicago Bears
Young was quiet in a Week 4 victory against the Lions but certainly made his presence felt against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5. Although the Bears lost 29-23, Young tallied five tackles and three sacks in a dominant pass-rushing outing. He now has four sacks on the year.
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, New England Patriots
Nursing a thumb injury in his second career start, Brissett and the New England offense struggled against the Buffalo Bills, losing 16-0. It was the first time the Patriots had ever been shutout in Gillette Stadium. Brissett completed 17 of 27 passes for 205 yards and ran four times for 23 yards, but also lost a fumble. He was placed on Injured Reserve as he underwent thumb surgery prior to Week 5, allowing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady to take his roster spot after serving a four-game suspension.
Redshirt junior quarterback Russell Wilson runs the ball during the Oct. 9, 2010 game against Boston College in Carter-Finely Stadium. Wilson had total of 45 rushing yards during the game. NC State won against Boston College, 44 - 17.
