On Tuesday and Friday morning, large stacks of Technician newspapers were discovered missing from at least 17 stands across Main Campus.
Technician publishes print papers every Monday and Thursday throughout the academic year, and it is not typical to see multiple stands deplenished within 24 hours of the initial distribution, especially twice in one week.
On Tuesday, Technician found that about 1,350 papers had been taken from 13 stands, located in and outside of buildings on Main Campus. On Friday, nearly 900 papers were reported taken from 11 locations, seven of which overlapped with the stands that were also empty three days prior. In all, 2,250 Technician newspapers have disappeared this week.
All students, faculty, staff and visitors at NC State are welcome to one free copy of the Technician, and all subsequent copies cost $0.25, as indicated on page two of our print product and online (however, if asked, Technician often provides additional print copies at no additional cost). Removing large numbers of copies from stands is considered theft, and could potentially result in a Student Conduct violation according to the NC State University Police Department.
The Technician has filed two separate reports with the NC State Police, and the police said that they will be reviewing video footage of some of the locations where papers have gone missing.
If anyone has any information regarding who may have taken the papers please contact NC State Police or the Technician at technician-editor@ncsu.edu.
