Hopscotch Music Festival
Hopscotch Music Festival reels in local performers, as well as nationally acclaimed artists. Stave off your boredom with its day parties, art exhibit and 12 walk-able venues. VIP wristbands, three-day wristbands and day wristbands are available for purchase via the Hopscotch website. The festival takes place Sept. 8-10.
SPARKcon
Check out Raleigh’s 11th annual SPARKcon in downtown Raleigh. From Sept. 15-18, experience showcases creative individuals on a local, representative level. From design and film to comedy and geek, the festival delivers a wide range of talent and venues. Further, it gives individuals a platform to connect and grow. Click here for a comprehensive guide.
Raleigh Greek Festival
From Sept. 9-11, check out Raleigh’s 35th Greek Festival at the Jim Graham Building on the NC State Fairgrounds. The festival is free of charge and will feature authentic Greek food, dancing and a marketplace.
Wide Open Bluegrass 2016
Coined as the “largest urban bluegrass festival in the world,” the music celebration lasts from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. There will be a free “Streetfest” downtown on five stages with activities, a dance tent, food vendors and a showcase inside the Raleigh Convention Center. Check out the North Carolina Whole Hog Barbecue Championship and grab a bite to eat.
Triangle Oktoberfest
Sept. 23-24, explore German culture, food and dancing at Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre. All proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s NC. Wash down Bavarian delicacies such as twisted pretzels with authentic and local German beer. There are plenty of entertaining events for the whole family, such as wiener dog races. Ticket prices vary and are available for purchase via triangleoktoberfest.org.
Science of Beer
If beer-making has ever piqued your curiosity, pencil in the “Science of Beer” event on Sept. 15. The event lasts from 6:30-10 p.m. at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham and will feature food trucks, live music and beer. Money earned from ticket sales will benefit the museum’s conservation and education efforts.
Carrboro music festival
The Carrboro music festival is just a drive away. It’s a free two-day event, featuring genres such as Motown, Louisiana roots, psychedelic indie rock, blues/soul pop and more. The showcase takes place from Sept. 24-25 and will include food vendors and crafts.
Second Annual Raleigh Seafood Festival
This Saturday and Sunday, experience Raleigh’s second annual seafood festival. Stroll through the food and vendors at the NC State Fairgrounds. Enjoy the atmosphere with seafood fresh from the coastline, arts and craft exhibits and local bands. Tickets are $5 for adults and $7 when purchased the day of. Take note that the ticket prices are for entry only and do not include seafood.
Dragon Boat Festival
Experience Chinese culture with the Dragon Boat Festival Sept. 17. Try your hand at dragon boat racing for free at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary.
Curds and Crafts Festival
Celebrate the classic combination of cheese and beer with the Curds and Crafts Festival. Chat with artisan cheese makers and craft brewers while consuming the unlimited samples. The event takes place on Sept. 18 from 1-3 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. The event will be at The Cloth Mill at Eno River, located in West Hillsborough. Tickets are $35 per session and include a tasting glass, a loaf of bread, a souvenir bag, cheese, jams and more. Ticket sales benefit the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI) based out of Pittsboro.
