With the NBA season gaining steam approaching All Star Weekend Feb. 12–14, let’s look at some of the NC State alumni making their marks.
T.J. Warren
After struggling to find a consistent role his rookie year, former Wolfpack star forward Warren is enjoying the kind of breakout sophomore campaign that could propel him to an All-Star appearance in the coming years. The past five games have been mostly good with one outlier against the LA Lakers; Warren is averaging 13.4 points per game while shooting a solid 47.5 percent overall and 37.5 percent from the three-point line since Dec. 31. This year, Warren has shown an improvement in rebounding, averaging 3.4 per game after just 2.1 last season. He is also averaging less than one turnover a game.
J.J. Hickson
In the eighth year in the NBA, Hickson is continuing his relatively successful career as a role player in the NBA. He is currently playing on the West Coast with the rebuilding Denver Nuggets as the first forward/center off the bench. For the year, Hickson is averaging 7.6 PPG and 4.8 RPG while shooting 50.5 percent.
Lorenzo Brown
As a college player, Brown was everything NC State could ask for. However, he has had a difficult time catching on in the NBA with his limited shooting range appearing to be the biggest factor. Brown was signed to a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns Friday, reuniting him with former Wolfpack teammate Warren. He has yet to appear in a game with the Suns after spending time with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers the previous two seasons.
