As of Wednesday, 205 teams of at least four students each have registered to play intramural basketball. Team captains have put their wits to good use making interesting team names. For each of the leagues, these five group names are within the top tier of creativity.

This team name needs no explanation of what it implies. Junior political science major Richard Chen and his team of self-proclaimed “dating connoisseurs” will look to focus more on dropping balls in baskets than panties on floors.

This team has earned the Technician’s best overall name in intramural basketball for the 2013 spring season. Putting together an Italian pasta with former Boston Celtics player and the best worst player in basketball Brian Scalabrine escalates business administration senior Devin Rosas’ team to the top spot. If the team can win at least one game, it will still be better than Scalabrine’s entire career despite his championship ring with the Celtics in 2008.

Young and WISE, led by Laura Zuraw, a sophomore majoring in biological sciences, earns the top spot for the ladies’ division. The team name was the only name not perceived as either a lean toward promiscuity or toward bluntness of being females.

Soheil Sajjadi, civil engineering graduate student, has engineered a team that claims to be an upgrade from Los Angeles Lakers player Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest. Unlike World Peace, Sajjadi’s team will look to remain free of foul trouble.
Fraternity/Sorority
All of the eligible remaining fraternities and sororities have only their organization names as their team names. The Pi Beta Phi team, captained by junior business administration major Lauren Steele, has the most participants on the team with nine as of yesterday.
For students still wanting to create or join an intramural team, signups are active until Jan. 21 at 11:55 pm. Player additions will remain active until the season ends. The season starts on Monday, Jan. 28, and will conclude on March 14 with playoffs to follow at a later date.
