The NC State volleyball team takes on No. 7 UNC-Chapel Hill for the first time this season on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
Coming off four straight losses, Wolfpack Head Coach Bryan Bunn is looking to get back on track by making changes to the current team lineup and focusing on team weaknesses in practice.
“We’ve been looking at some new lineups just trying to figure out the best thing for us,” Bunn said.
In the past two matchups against Carolina last year the Wolfpack fell short, losing 3-0 in both games. North Carolina will be stiff competition for NC State with a record of 13-2, losing only to No. 2 Florida State and No. 11 Illinois.
Some key players for the Tarheels include hitters junior Leigh Andrew and redshirt senior Chaniel Nelson. NC State will need to focus on its defensive game in order to stop these dangerous players.
In addition to playing defensively on attacks, the team must maintain service and keep control of the game.
“Serve-receive and defense,” Bunn said. “These are the two things that need to be picked up a little bit against UNC.”
Many Wolfpack fans see this upcoming match against Carolina as more than just another game given the rivalry between the two schools, but Bunn and the team are taking it in stride. Despite its recent losses, NC State’s preparation in practice and new on-the-court chemistry has brought about a new sense of confidence.
“We don’t treat it different than any other game,” Bunn said.
NC State will continue its season without seniors Rachel Buckley and Nikki Glass for unknown reasons but will look to keep to the same principles of strong play even without these veteran players.
The game will be immediately followed by the Throwback with the Pack event.
