Despite dishing out phenomenal performances in his minor league appearances, former NC state pitching ace Carlos Rodon will not be wearing a Chicago White Sox uniform this September, according to minorleaguebaseball.com.
Although the outcome is disappointing for Rodon, Chicago reportedly underwent an internal quarrel in its decision, but the organization ultimately determined that the young left-hander was not where it wanted him to be at the time.
Rodon, the No. 3 overall draft pick in June, pitched his heart out in August. He threw 18 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched among his three Triple-A outings on the mound for the Charlotte Knights. When analyzing his performances, it is fairly surprising that Rodon will not be one of the seven players called up to the White Sox this month.
Several weeks of buzz surrounding the possibility of Rodon rising up to the big show was not enough to sway the White Sox front office to call him up. The Holly Springs native shocked scouts around the league with his pitching arsenal.
The 21-year-old’s plus slider was wiffed by every bat in the Norfolk Tide’s lineup last Sunday. Among his other throws, Rodon’s plus slider left batters dumbfounded throughout each of his outings, and the crisp whip of his fastballs could be heard clearly in the bleachers.
Rodon will have to wait until next year to potentially play in the Major Leagues.
