With the pro baseball season now in full swing, fans have been able to get a true taste of the talent that so many former NC State players have to offer. That is certainly true in the minor leagues as 27 former Pack baseball players are actively working to cement their spot on a major league roster.
Luca Tresh, catcher, Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals)
One Pack Pro who is shining right now is Luca Tresh, who was selected by the Kansas City Royals as the 499th overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft. He currently suits up for their minor league high-A affiliate, the Quad Cities River Bandits. This season behind the plate, Tresh has compiled a slashline of .257/.327/.421. Along with that, he has 29 RBIs and seven homers on the season.
Jose Torres, shortstop, Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds)
Jose Torres, the 89th overall selection of the Cincinnati Reds in 2021, is currently putting up solid numbers this season. Torres has posted a .239/.304/.400 slash so far with the Dayton Dragons that also includes his 18 RBIs and seven home runs. Torres, who earned All-ACC honors, played for the Pack in the 2020 and 2021 campaigns.
Jack Conley, catcher, Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies)
In his fourth year in the minors, Jack Conley is having his best season so far. Conley, a 2018 draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies has been solid as he has .245/.343/.395 for their double A affiliate, the Reading Fightin Phils. He has four homers and 18 RBIs.
Tyler McDonough, second baseman, Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox)
The Pack Pro that might be making the largest splash of the season is Tyler McDonough, second baseman for the Greenville Drive. McDonough, the 75th overall selection of the Boston Red Sox in the 2021 draft, had an outstanding career at NC State. In his final year with the Wolfpack, he was a second-team All-ACC and D1 baseball third-team All-American. So far this season, he has crushed seven homers and an impressive 34 RBIs. It should also be noted that he owns an impressive line at .244/.336/.406.
As we truly begin to dive into the summer months of the 2022 baseball season, there are many former members of the Pack 9 who are making their presence known. If some can continue their performance, it shouldn’t be long until they are called up to the bright lights of the MLB.
