A 23-year-old exchange student at NC State was killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding an electric scooter early Sunday morning, according to a WRAL report.
Pierre-Louis de Mourgues was struck from behind by a vehicle on Gorman Street near Kaplan Drive around 4 a.m. March 23. The driver fled the scene after dragging de Mourgues down the road.
De Mourgues was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still searching for the driver responsible.
Lauren Barker, senior media relations strategist at NC State, confirmed that de Mourgues was an exchange student at NC State through a partnership with SKEMA Business School.
De Mourgues began his studies at NC State in August 2024 and was set to complete the program in April, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was scheduled to graduate from SKEMA in France in September.
On his LinkedIn profile, De Mourgues described himself as an experienced business strategist with skills in client relationships and sales growth. He said he was seeking professional opportunities in the United States.
The Raleigh Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the fatal crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
