NC State is expected to hold an event for a “historic campus announcement” Tuesday at Talley Student Union.

Members of the NC State marching band received an email Saturday requesting their presence at the event. The email states the marching band is needed from 3:05 to 3:35 p.m. NC State has not yet made an official announcement of the event.

While it is unclear what the announcement is pertaining to, NC State is currently hiring for two coveted positions.

The event comes amid the University’s search for both a new chancellor and men’s basketball head coach. Rumors swirled this week about a potential chancellor selection in Kevin Howell, current chief external affairs officer at UNC Health and former vice chancellor at NC State, after a 247 Sports report.

Fans have speculated extensively about potential men’s basketball head coach candidates to replace former head coach Kevin Keatts, most notably McNeese State head coach Will Wade, since the announcement of Keatts’ departure Sunday.

7:12 p.m., March 15 update:

A separate email to band members Saturday said NC State Athletics requested the band’s presence at a press conference announcing the new men’s basketball head coach.

The email said it is the “very early planning stage,” and there is currently no known timeline for the announcement. The press conference is independent of the expected “historic campus announcement” Tuesday.
