NC State track and field secured first-team All-ACC honors in eight events at the ACC Indoor Championships at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Podium finishers in each event received first-team All-ACC honors. The Wolfpack had seven individuals land on the podium, while also securing a podium finish in the women’s distance medley relay.
The women’s distance medley relay team won a tight race, coming in at 10:52.59. The team featured sophomores Kate Putman, Jordyn Parker, Angelina Napoleon and junior Hannah Gapes. Gapes, anchoring, made her move with over 300 meters to go and hung on for the victory.
Keeping with women’s distance events, a major strong suit for the Wolfpack, senior Brooke Rauber finished third in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:50.09 — a personal best for Rauber, putting her at 10th all-time in NC State history for the event.
Gapes secured another podium finish in the 3000 meter, finishing second with a personal best time of 8:48.96 — good enough to be the third fastest time in event history for the Pack.
Fellow junior Grace Hartman took third in the 1600 meter with a 4:26.82. Hartman was the pacemaker, leading for almost the entire race, but ran out of gas in the final 60 meters and was passed by the other two runners in the lead group. In each of her three years at NC State, Hartman has finished top-10 in the mile event at the Indoor ACC Championships.
Rounding out All-ACC finishers in running events was freshman Patrick Tuohy, finishing second place in the men’s 800 meter.
The Pack earned two podium finishes, good enough for All-ACC honors, in jumping events.
Senior Charles McBride placed second in the men’s high jump, clearing 2.16 meters. Since transferring to NC State from Campbell last year, McBride has not finished outside of the top 10 in a high jump competition.
In the men’s long jump, sophomore Tyson Adams took the top spot with a personal best mark of 7.76 meters.
As well as eight podium finishes at the championships, the Pack impressed with growth in new areas.
Sophomore Elijah Dawes, after climbing the NC State indoor record book all season in the 400 meter, moved to No. 2 on the program’s all-time top 10 list with a time of 46.75. He finished the event with a seventh-place finish.
Senior Alexander Nunley finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles event, earning second-team All-ACC, and with a time of 7.85 in the prelims, holds the third fastest time in NC State history for the event.
A few other competitors made the second All-ACC teams, including Napoleon and junior high jumper Kyzaiah Stone.
The NCAA Indoor Championships is set for next Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The NCAA will announce on March 4 which athletes will get a bid.
