The Health Hazard Evaluation that was previously requested to assist Poe Hall, has been closed following federal staff reductions at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, according to an update posted by Chancellor Randy Woodson Wednesday.
The closure follows a nationwide freeze on all HHEs, as a result of a federal reduction in force across NIOSH. After the HHE initiated concerns about chemical contaminants in Poe Hall they were expected to provide an assessment of the environmental health risks posed by these contaminants and guide building remediation efforts.
“I know that this news may be disappointing, especially as we have been awaiting results,” Woodson wrote. “I want to reassure you that we will continue to keep you informed.”
Poe Hall was vacated in November 2023 after reports of PCB exposure was found in the seven-story building.
