No. 6 NC State men’s tennis extended its win streak to 11 with a pair of 4-1 wins over Georgia Tech and No. 22 Clemson in its last road stint of the 2025 regular season.
First traveling to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech, NC State (18-4, 10-0 ACC) downed the Yellow Jackets (12-8, 5-5 ACC) by winning the doubles point and three singles matches while the Wolfpack fell in doubles at Clemson (18-5, 6-4 ACC) but put up a strong singles round to defeat the Tigers in South Carolina.
At Georgia Tech, 4-1 win
NC State started its rout in Atlanta with a strong doubles round over the Yellow Jackets with a pair of 6-2 wins on Courts 1 and 2. The No. 9 pair of seniors Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek earned an impressive ranked win over Georgia Tech’s No. 20 pair of Nate Bonetto and Gianluca Carlini.
The Pack’s No. 23 pair of redshirt freshman Jules Leroux and senior Luca Staeheli then followed suit on Court 2 with a ranked win over their own. Leroux and Staeheli set down the No. 59 pair of Krish Arora and Christophe Clement 6-2 to send their team into singles with a 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets responded in singles with an upset win over NC State’s No. 23 junior Martin Borisiouk in two quick sets. From there, though, the red-and-white won three straight singles matches to claim the bout.
Redshirt freshman William Manning captured the first NC State singles win in a 6-3, 6-2 victory over his opponent on Court 6. No. 26 Shick then followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 1 over Georgia Tech’s Gabriele Brancatelli.
Van Sambeek finished things off in Atlanta with a similar 6-4, 6-4 win over Arora on Court 4 to earn the Pack’s first win of the weekend.
At No. 22 Clemson, 4-1 win
Unlike its win over the Yellow Jackets, NC State fell in the doubles round against a tougher Clemson team in South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. In a rare doubles round loss, the Pack fell on Courts 2 and 3, where Staeheli and Leroux lost 6-4 and Manning and freshman Nikolay Nedelchev fell 6-3.
While the pair of Shick and Van Sambeek battled their opponents on Court 1 in a close match, the losses on Courts 2 and 3 sent NC State into singles with a 1-0 deficit.
However, the Wolfpack turned things around in singles, winning four straight matches to shut out the Tigers in the latter round. Borisiouk redeemed his first loss of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 2 to begin the round while Staeheli captured his first singles win of the weekend with a similar 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 92 Wissam Abderrahman.
Manning earned his second win of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 win on Court 6 that put his team in clinch position. NC State’s impressive singles round concluded with a win from Shick on Court 1 — a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory over No. 55 Noa Vukadin.
NC State is set to return home to Raleigh for the remainder of the regular season, beginning its final stretch with a home match against Boston College on Friday before a showdown with SMU on Sunday.
Play against the Eagles will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
