No. 12 NC State women’s tennis took a trip down to the Sunshine State to face Florida State and Miami in the last road trip of the team’s 2025 campaign.
The Wolfpack downed the Seminoles by a score of 4-2 in Tallahassee, Florida and beat the Hurricanes in Coral Gables in a final result of 4-1. The pair of wins pushed NC State to 13 wins this season.
At Florida State, 4-2 win
The Wolfpack beat the Seminoles after a strong singles round but started the match off on its back foot after surprisingly losing the early doubles round.
One of the best doubles teams in the nation, NC State lost on Courts 2 and 3 in hard-fought battles. The No. 2 ranked pair of sophomores Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo earned NC State a win over FSU’s No. 42 Eva Shaw and Maria Parra Romero, but the Pack couldn’t conjure a win on any other courts.
NC State rebounded in singles, with No. 125 wolfpack freshman Mia Slama taking Court 5 6-2, 6-0. Zampardo took the next court, gaining her team a 2-1 lead over FSU with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on Court 3.
The Seminoles struck back, however, with a two-set win on Court 2 over No. 68 junior Anna Zyryanova. Tied at 2-2, NC State won the next two matches, getting wins on Courts 6 and 4.
On Court 6, freshman Gabia Paskauskas won her match 7-5, 6-3 while No. 106 Gabriella Broadfoot claimed victory on Court 4 in a three-set win that earned the Pack its first match win of the weekend.
At Miami, 4-1 win
NC State earned its second win of the weekend in a 4-1 victory over Miami on Sunday, this time bouncing back in the doubles round and suffering its only loss of singles due to a medical retirement.
While Zampardo and Broadfoot fell in the doubles round to Miami’s Alexa Noel and Raquel Gonzalez, the pair of freshman Jasmine Conway and Zyryanova won 6-2 on Court 2. The pair of sophomore Kristina Paskauskas and freshman Michaela Laki defeated their opponents on Court 3 in the deciding doubles match.
Singles started with medical retirement from No. 23 Laki in her exciting, ranked match against Miami’s No. 39 Noel. The extent of Laki’s injury is not yet known as the team is waiting on testing for the star player this week.
The Pack pushed on, however, first with a 6-0, 6-1 win from Paskauskas on Court 6. Zampardo earned her second win of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court 4 before Slama defeated her opponent on Court 5 in a 6-2, 6-2 win to secure the team victory.
NC State is set to return home for the final three matches of its regular season, starting with a match against No. 18 Cal-Berkeley on Friday before a ranked showdown with Stanford on Sunday.
First serve against the Golden Bears is set for 3 p.m. in Raleigh.
